Thinking about LASIK surgery?
Have you thought about LASIK surgery?
Did you know that the doctors at Vision Source Mandan offer LASIK surgery co-management services? We can do your full pre-operative evaluation right in the office. We have the instrumentation and technology to do so. This evaluation will tell us if you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery. It is important to note that contact lens wearers should NOT wear their contact lenses for a certain period before their pre-op evaluation. The length of time depends on what type of contact lenses you wear, and how you wear them. Contact our office to find out how long you should go without your contact lenses before your evaluation appointment. You will need to do the same before your surgery date as well. Plan ahead to wear your eyeglasses!
How do I know if I am a good candidate for LASIK?
LASIK works the best for a person who is nearsighted. Myopia can be thought, simply, as the eyeball being “too long” in length. LASIK is able to “shorten” the eyeball by removing an exact amount of the cornea with the laser. After performing the pre-operative evaluation, we will know if you have reasonable prescription that can be corrected through LASIK.
If you are already a bifocal wearer, LASIK may or may not be an option for you. Because a bifocal wearer requires a different prescription for distance vision than they do for near vision, we essentially have to “pick one” to be corrected. The only exception is a procedure called monovision where one eye is corrected for distance vision and the other eye is corrected for near vision.
Your optometrist at Vision Source Mandan will be able to tell you if you are a good candidate for LASIK based on your prescription.
Who will perform my surgery?
If you appear to be a good candidate for LASIK surgery, we will forward your evaluation data to a surgeon and get you scheduled for your LASIK surgery. There are several ophthalmologists who perform LASIK surgery in the Bismarck ND Mandan ND area and we can help match you with one.
What happens after my LASIK surgery?
After your LASIK surgery, the doctors at Vision Source Mandan can handle all of your post-operative visits. We typically see you the day after the surgery as well as 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months; or as often as needed. Going forward, it is a good routine to have an eye exam once a year after that. Even though your vision may now be corrected to 20/20 without glasses or contacts, it is important to make sure your eyes remain healthly. In addition, some LASIK surgeons offer a lifetime guarantee on your LASIK, so long as you still continue to have annual eye exams with your optometrist.
