Remember to use your FLEX money!
It’s crazy to think there are only two months left in 2017.
So if you have not used your FLEX money yet, now is the time to think about it!
What is FLEX money?
A flexible spending account is offered by some employers to their employees. It allows the employee to set aside wages for health care expenses. When the money is put into these accounts, it is not taxed. This saves the employee money when they use it on qualified medical expenses.
Depending on how your employer has your flex account set up, you may have a debit card to use on medical expenses, or you may get reimbursed after the fact from your employer.
How can FLEX money be used?
Flexible spending account money may be used for eye exams, contact lens evaluations, prescription eyeglasses or sunglasses, contact lenses, and more! Most any service or product from your optometrist qualifies as a valid medical expense that you can use with your FLEX money.
Is there a deadline to use FLEX money?
In most cases, yes!
For most employees, that deadline is usually the end of the year. FLEX money is a use-it-or-lose-it situation. If the money is not used, it just goes away. It does not roll over.
Of course, check with your employer for your specific FLEX money details but make sure you use it by your required deadline so that you do not lose any of your hard-earned money.
